acr-g-vc copolymer resin is a special substance that increases shock resistance and can be used as an impact modifier for polyvinyl chloride resin. the acr-modified pvc resin has a faster melt rate, lower melt viscosity and better process, so other auxiliary agents can be omitted or reduced and the resulting product has good weather and temperature resistance, shock strength and color stability. acr resin is suitable for outdoor opaque pvc products, for example, blinds, piping, and extruded materials. with the rapid growth in rigid pvc product use, especially allotype materials and plates, acr-g-vc resin will have a bright future. also, the synthesis of acr impact modifier and acr-g-vc resin is important for improved product quality and for stimulate the customization of pvc resin.
the “acr-g-vc copolymer resin in suspension” method developed by hebei shenghua was a part of the key national new products program and given government support. hebei shenghua, with assistance from the hebei university of technology, began doing pilot tests on acr special resin -- including acr seeded emulsion polymerization and acr-g-vc suspension polymerization -- using the hebei chlorine & alkali project technical research center’s r&d resources.
pilot production kept at a steady pace for six months and the products were meeting 100 percent of project requirements in all physical and mechanical properties. by making optimal use of the formula and techniques based of the pilot tests, the polymerizer production was scaled up several times. to increase the stability of the pilot products and reduce the use of raw materials, the monomer dropping and recovery systems were adjusted, thereby improving product quality a great deal and cutting raw material use by 2 percent.
the finished acr product has now passed the necessary tests, for example, those for vicat softening temperature, load deformation temperature, peel strength, breaking elongation, tensile elasticity, bending strength, flex, and impact strength. all of the test data fit the standard pattern. the next step is for hebei shenghua to begin the commercial process of acr special resin in 30-cubic-meter and 70-cubuc-meter polymerizers. ultimately, the production capacity will reach 50,000 tons by 2012, to meet domestic market demand.
