according to bloomberg (bnef)’s latest research results, if the eu achieves its carbon reduction targets, developing countries will receive 31 billion euros worth of investment in clean energy and energy efficiency projects in 2020. the money includes all capital expenditures.

the analysis assumes that the european union by 2020 will impose more stringent carbon reduction targets, bringing down the level by 22% from 1990 levels. to achieve this goal, the european union’s need of carbon emission permits trades will hit 3.9 billion tons, including approximately 1 billion tons to come from developing countries.

according to bnef’s calculation, the price of unit carbon emissions will average 19 euros per ton by 2012, and is going to rise to about 32 euros in the future. it said china has offered 62% of carbon emission permits projected by u.n, and over 1/3 new investment will still happen in china.
